Members of the Sportscounsel Group
In order to ensure that we give a quality service to our clients we work with the following experts:
The Funding Organisation Service
Funding Information Service produces three online searchable databases about funding and works with all sectors in New Zealand i.e. community and voluntary sector, whanau, hapu and iwi organisations, education and training, environment, arts, sport and recreation, culture and heritage, business, economic development, central and local government. You can access the databases through local libraries that subscribe to the service. For a full list of public libraries which support the databases go the FIS website.
Intellectual Property Advice
Top sports stars now recognise the benefit of protecting image rights and character merchandise by creating intellectual property. Sportscounsel works very closely with AJ Park solicitors and patent attorneys, who are one of New Zealand's foremost intellectual property specialists with an International client base. They specialise in the registration of Trade Marks and Patents. To find out more, visit their web site by clicking here.
Accountancy Advice
Worried you are paying too much tax? If you are earning an income from sport, then you will need accountancy advice. We work closely with Steve Furlong of Furlong and Associates based in Auckland. Steve's expertise is in maximising your income by legitimately avoiding having to pay the tax department too much money. To find out more click here.
Financial Planning
Sporting careers can be short, so it's important to invest your income wisely for the future. We have chosen Gain Zohrab of Spicers Portfolio Management, Pakuranga, Auckland office as our preferred financial planner. Visit the Spicers web site by clicking here.
Insurance
Specialist sports insurance is a must, whether you are a club, individual or an event organiser. At Sportscounsel, we work with New Zealand's specialist sports insurers, Legal and Professional Insurance Group Limited. Along with Sportscounsel they are founding partners of the Sports Risk Management Group. To find out more about them click here.
Risk Management
Some sporting risks are not insurable, but even if they are, it is important to have a good risk management plan in place, so you can identify the potential hazards and do something to prevent accidents occurring. Having one may even reduce your insurance premiums! At Sportscounsel we work with Geoff Wood of Sportsrisk which is also a founding partner of the Sports Risk Management Group. Geoff has experience both in the US and New Zealand and has been asked to speak on risk management issues by ACC and at NZSSSC and national sports coordinators events.
Communications and PR
What can you sell in return for sponsorship? Often, all that sports people have to sell to potential sponsors is their profile. So raising that profile within the media is essential if a sports person or sports club wants to leverage income from sporting activities. This can often mean exposure not only in the printed media but also radio and TV. Sportscounsel has formed an alliance with John Shattock of Shattock Communications to help in this area. John has 30 years experience in media and PR, and is a Fellow of the Public Relations Institute of New Zealand. To view John's web site click here.
Public Speaking
Once you have gained that profile, and have a story to tell, then the road is open to obtain public speaking engagements. However, unless you are a born natural (and few people are) then you will need expert tips on how to present yourself and your story. At Sportscounsel we draw on the services of David Nottage, New Zealand's first World Champion in public speaking, to give our clients expert tips. To find out more about David click here.
We also work closely with New Zealand's public speaking consultancies to find the right engagements for you.
Sports Psychology
What if goal setting is not enough? Maybe you are in a slump which you can't seem to escape? Your performance is suffering and nothing seems to help. Perhaps then you need the assistance of a sports psychologist. At Sportscounsel, we recommend Lisa Markwick of Mindful Adventures. Lisa has experience with most sports and is based in Auckland.
